Gyro

The Gyro is an orientation device that is used in navigation, based on the principles of angular momentum. The exhibit lets you experience the gyro effect first hand. It consists of a wheel spinning on an axle. Spinning the wheel at an increasing speed will increase its angular momentum causing the wheel to resist a change in its direction. The visitor, sitting on the stool, while holding the spinning wheel, will experience the resistance while beginning turning.
