The classic Pan flute is an ancient musical instrument based on the principle of closed tubes, consisting of five or more pipes of gradually increasing lengths.
Our giant Pan Flute enables visitors to hear the distinct notes created by the different pipe lengths. The exhibit consists of open pipes in order to produce clearer sounds.
The reflected standing waves produce notes, an octave higher than would be produced by closed pipes of equal lengths.
The exhibit is named after the rustic Greek god, Pan.
